Design Trends

I so agree with some of these trends.

Simplicity is always hot, and never goes out of style, as long as it achieving the goals from the get go.
A genuine understanding of a business leads to good design, especially for logos.  Creating an identity that not only looks good but makes sense and works with the brand to engage the customer.

If you're interested in discussing your design needs. Make a time now.

Exciting days ahead.  Roll on 2014.

Naked Cake DIY

Like many if you I'm sure I grew up with the Women's Weekly Birthday cake book. Every birthday it would come out, and my mum would moan in self doubt at my selection. Traditions have moved on and now I do the same thing. Starting out with great confidence but really only a 50% success rate. Don't get me wrong everyone compliments and there are oohs and ahhh. However I know the short cuts I have taken or where I expected it to work out better.
So full of confidence I started the quest for the perfect naked cake.
I baked the rather simple basic cake layers. A chose to do two chocolate and one vanilla layer to add to the mix. Okay I did have one failure, so actually I cooked four cakes, but that's by the by.
Now on to the decorating. The actual fun stuff.
My first tip is to cut each layer carefully, and as even as possible. In between each cake layer I added strawberry jam, strawberries and cream. All my favourite things.

All went well which was fairly surprising.
Finally on the top layer I added sifted icing sugar, but not too much. Just enough to add a little freshness of white.
Then a few strawberries, and some cut flowers.

Perfect!

Our only problem was serving up. It was a very tall cake, so we had very high slices.

I would highly recommend giving this a go. It was fairly easy and the result was an impressive cake that everyone liked and commented on. Perfect for small parties.

Cake Topper DIY - Vintage Inspired

I love to try out what I see in magazines, Pinterest, facebook and the like. After seeing a vintage inspired cake topper I thought I would give it a go for a family birthday. I think it worked really well, and would be fantastic for a vintage styled wedding.

So here's the simple instruction.

What you will need:

  • Printed out of your letters
  • String, twine or ribbon
  • Wooden skewers
  • Glue

Firstly print out your letters in the diamond shape as below. It's a good idea to measure out how big you words will be compared to your cake so you have the right proportions.

Cut out each of your diamonds and fold them in half.

Lay them on the ribbon and cut then tied the ribbon to the skewers so they are evenly spaced.  Then glue the paper together with the ribbon at the top fold.

Finally it's just placing them in your cake.

So here's my latest idea, or at least I saw something similar on facebook, and I thought I could adapt it to fit my purpose.

Champagne is a favourite of mine and many of my friends - the perfect way to celebrate

I drink champagne on two occasions

Any celebration is a wonderful day, and working before hand to design an individual invitation and accessories is part of the planning fun.

Here's the latest invites we did for a 9th Birthday at the client's local skating rink.

We incorporated lots of colour, and some retro looking skates.

We love them!

Recycled Candle Holders for a Gold Theme Wedding

Turning the used into something beautiful is easier than you think.

Try this idea for turning used jars into sparkling candle holders.

What you will need:

Clean used jars
Gold acrylic paint
Gold glitter
Glue
Lace

Step One

Paint the jars.  You can do just one or a lot of coats. the amount of light that shows through will change accordingly.  I also painted on glue and did a few without the gold paint.  In the end I liked these the most, as more light came through.

Step Two

While the paint is still wet sprinkle on the glitter.

Step Three
When dry use the glue to adhere lace, or what ever adornment you like to the top of the jar.

And it's done.  Super easy and very effective.
You can do all of this yourself, or if you would like some help we can supply the completed jars in a range of colours from $5 each, depending on the lace preferred.  Email us to find out more.

Naturally Lacy Centrepieces

Looking for a natural, organic theme that easy to do, and costs very little?

Try this.

Using native Australian flowers with a mix of natural twine and recycled bottles.

What you need
Used Wine Bottle, other bottles or jars.
Twine
Lace
Glue

Step one
Remove the labels from the bottles or jars, and wash well.

Step two
Use PVC glue to adhere the twine.  Start at the bottom, and slowly work up.

Because the glue dries clear you don't have to worry about being to precise. Just keep the twine close together without overlapping it.

Step three
Glue the lace around the bottle.  I like the raw feel, so have placed them at different heights on the bottles, but you could have them in the same place.  You could also mix up the lace, or use another fabric.  So many choices.

I also used a few clear bottles with just lace to contrast against the brown.

Add some native flowers, which last for ages, and look great too.

And voila that it.

Easy and a great excuse to have to collect wine bottles.

Add some kraft paper invitations and wedding stationery to continue the theme from start to finish.

You can do all of this yourself, or if you would like some help we can supply finished bottles from $5 each, depending on the lace preferred. Email us to find out more

Framed Quotes for Weddings

Adding that bit of wedding glamour, humour, or class can be easily achieved with some great framed quotes or saying.

Here are a couple of my favourites in a little stop motion animation for The Wedding Alley.  The saying are framed in gorgeous silver guilded fames.

"Time to drink champagne and dance on the tables."

"Happily ever after starts here."
